Idevio now have enabled route based operations globally in GeoAnalytics in IdevioMaps. It makes it possible to use drive time or drive distance in operations, calculate travel areas (aka isolines, isodistances, isochrones) and routes. All easily available from the GeoAnalytics wizard within Qlik Sense or QlikView.

New operations are:
TravelAreas – calculates areas with time or distance less than a specified value to the center.
Routes – calculates shortest or fastest route between an origin and a destination point.
In the Closest operation it is now possible to to choose between the transport modes car, pedestrian, bike, truck or bird. In addition to that it is possible to choose a length or time unit for the distances between objects. This makes the Closest operation extremely powerful for a large range of problems.
No update is needed to get the new features. Next time you open Idevio GeoAnalytics they are available there.
Take a look at the new Sales Location Analysis demo that investigates how good the locations are for the sales offices of a demo company. Locations are considered good if the population that reaches the location within 30 minutes is large and the uptake area does not overlap much with other sales locations areas. It uses travel areas and calculates how much they intersect each other and also how much they intersect postal areas with population statistics for finding population within the area.
We have added two more operations in GeoAnalytics in IdevioMaps. You do not need to do anything to get them, they will show up next time you open up the Idevio GeoAnalytics Connector. The new operations calculate which areas intersect and how much they intersect and are called Intersects and IntersectsMost. Here is what you can use them for.

Use Case 1: Say you have your custom areas and want to find out how many people lives in them. You also have postal areas with population statistics. Then you can calculate the share of each postal area that each custom area overlaps using the Intersects operation. Then sum up the population times the overlap share for each postal area on custom area to get a good population approximation. This use case can be generalized to associate any statistics available on one set of areas to another set of areas.

Use Case 2: Say that you have detailed areas that you want to aggregate in larger existing areas but they do not quite align. To make the best out of it you want to aggregate in the area it intersects with the most. Typically postal area borders in many countries do not align with commune borders. Then apply the IntersectsMost operation on the postal areas and the commune areas and it will establish the relationship so that you can create a drill-down hierarchy with them.
Another improvement in GeoAnalytics is that the Closest operation now have an additional parameter that makes it possible to get the N closest objects to another one. As before it is also possible to limit by a maximum distance. This means that the Closer operation is not needed any more since all that it does is covered by the Closest operation. It is marked as deprecated and not accessible by the wizard any more.
IdevioMaps now includes Idevio GeoAnalytics, which brings geographic analysis to Qlik. Via a connector with a wizard you get easy access to advanced geographic analysis.
Typical things to use GeoAnalytics for is:
Find out which postal areas your GPS positions are in
Create custom sales areas based on smaller areas
Find out which service location is closest to each customer and number of customers per service location
Aggregate your point data in clusters or rectangular or hexagonal bins
GeoAnalytics is a toolbox of features that can be combined in numerous ways. Some features that previously were available via Idevio Load Library are now more conveniently available in the GeoAnalytics Wizard.
There is a problem with the current automatically updated Chrome version that makes map interaction slow. When panning, the map sometimes does not follow the cursor as smooth as it should or freezes.
The problem depends on hardware acceleration of graphics in Chrome and exists in some version 47.0.2526 but not in upcoming versions available in the developer channel. We expect the bug to go away with a coming automatic update but it is unclear when that version is pushed out.
This does not affect the desktop version of Qlik Sense.
Until the bug is fixed in Chrome, we recommend either turning off hardware acceleration in Chrome or using the Firefox browser instead.
This month we and our client Sportson was selected by Qlik as the Customer Success Story of the Month!
Sportson is one of Sweden’s largest and fastest growing franchise chains providing high quality bikes, service and accessories. They wanted to expand in one of the major cities and wish to see the impact of different possible store locations in regards to new sales, existing stores, competitors and population. Using IdevioMaps Sportson constructed an app where all aspects could be explored dynamically. The app revealed how clients made their acquisitions as well as the reach and effectiveness of both own stores and competitors.

Some highlights from the new version:
The new binning support functions makes it easy and stylish to drill down in huge number of points. Binning is available for hexagonal and rectangular bins. Just add a line in your load script to generate the bins for your data.
Internal geometries (sense style geometries in strings) can now be used in all layers in IdevioMaps, both for Qlik Sense and QlikView.
You now can select an object by double clicking on it.
It is now even easier to use the location service. Drop-down menus has been added for specifying country and type of object.
